Entry One: Totem of Comfort
Keeping with the Pixar theming, the story behind the Totem of Comfort is one of the first “Core Memories” I have from the Everstone development process. This is because the relic is in honor of Crystal, who so kindly reached out and offered her help on the project after I got an opportunity to interview Jamey Stegmaier on his YouTube Channel. To have someone I’d never met be so kind and helpful in this daunting self-publishing endeavor really moved me. Crystal continues to be so instrumental in moving through the blind play testing and proofreading in the development process. Her help with Everstone is what sparked asking all who helped bring Everstone to life to have a Relic in their honor. I began giving the prompt to all who helped: "If 100 years from now, you could only be remembered by one object, what would that object be?” For Crystal, it was a knitted moose she’d made herself. I’ve gotten Crystal’s consent to share her full reasoning behind the moose below.
“My choice is a moose I knitted. Moose are one of my favorite animals; they're so goofy looking and adorable. I learned to knit during COVID lock down. It was difficult to learn, but I enjoy learning new things and challenging myself. Now I have projects nearby at all times. Also, I made a mistake on the moose's antlers, but I persevered and redid them even though they were a pain, and I'm glad I did. I really enjoy giving away the things I make because it makes people feel special to receive something that took so much effort to make, and that gives me joy. However, I kept this special guy for myself.”
