Duke.

Long rides to the cape—sleepless winter nights. Off-season walks on the beach. The glass slider to moms office. The side yard in the summer. The windowsill when walking into the house.

These are all places that will feel incomplete.

We had to say goodbye to Duke this week, and it hasn’t been easy. Fourteen years of companionship with man's best friend still hasn’t felt long enough.

It’s impossible to put into words what he’s meant for my family.

He will be missed.

There will only be one blog this week. I’ll be taking the extra time to step back and reflect on all the joy Duke has brought me.

I’ll be back to my regular posting schedule next week.
